7  Advanced Statistics with R

This part of the tutorial covers more advanced quantitative methods for social science research. It is intended for participants who are already familiar with the material covered in the introductory sessions (descriptive statistics, univariate and bivariate analysis in R) and who wish to move further into data management, data visualization, and multivariate analysis.

This material has been designed for the Advanced statistics workshop run in Colombo (Sri Lanka) in May 2026.

All chapters use the same HIES 2019 data from Sri Lanka introduced in the previous chapters, with the same files demo.rds, health.rds, and edu.rds that we have previously used. If you need to access the data files (we use slightly modified files from the 25 percent excerpt), download them from the Data Repository (ask your tutor for the password!).
